Kari DeBower (pictured in purple top), a math teacher at Hockinson High School, will be presenting at the 2026 Northwest Mathematics Conference on October 9 at the Portland Holiday Inn. Her presentation, “Enhancing Mathematical Discourse in Inclusive Classrooms," will be delivered alongside Dr. Kristin Lesseig, a professor at Washington State University (WSU) Vancouver, and Dr. Heidi Rhodes of Educational Service District (ESD) 112.
The trio will discuss their experience with Math Studio, a two-year partnership between HHS and WSU Vancouver that resulted in a professional development program that equips educators with tools to engage students in meaningful math discussions.
The project began in the fall of 2024 and concluded this past summer. It was funded by a two-year, $50,000 grant from the College Preparatory Math Educational Program, awarded through a partnership with the university.
