Teachers during the August 2025 Learning Improvement Days inservice.

Prior to the first day of the 2025-26 school year, Hockinson teachers prepared to welcome students back to class by engaging in three state-funded Learning Improvement Days (LIDs). LIDs provide educators with programming focused on professional growth and planning, all with the goal of strengthening student learning. On October 10, educators will continue this work during a professional development day supported by levy funding.

The districtwide August 19 LID set the tone for the year and featured sessions led by Hockinson teachers and other district staff. This year, teachers from all three schools partnered with building and district leaders to present a multitude of professional development sessions. Session themes were chosen with input from educators and in alignment with state requirements.

Educators explored:

  • Building classroom culture that fosters positive rapport with students and boosts morale

  • Fostering stronger school-to-home communication to bolster student success

  • Learning about how to adjust for students with different needs in educational settings

  • Supporting students’ individual strengths and addressing their challenges

  • Using technology to enhance classroom efficiency, foster student engagement, and support differentiated instruction

  • Collaborative planning to meet the needs of all students in the classroom

In addition to the districtwide LIDs, orientation days at Hockinson Middle and High Schools and the community fair at Hockinson Heights Elementary School helped students feel welcome and ready for the new school year.

By investing in staff development and student belonging efforts,we reinforce our commitment to prepare all students for lifelong success.
