At an all-school assembly on June 4, the Class of 2025 was recognized for an impressive array of accomplishments at Hockinson High School’s Senior Awards Ceremony. 

Moreover, as illustrated in this slideshow, our graduates’ post-graduation plans are as diverse as their talents and interests! This special presentation highlights individual students belonging to the Class of 2025 with a photo and a look at their post-graduation plans, whether they’re headed to college, the workforce, the military or an apprenticeship. To continue the celebration, HSD will also be spotlighting groups of seniors every Sunday on social media, beginning this weekend. Follow along as we honor the accomplishments and bright futures of the Class of 2025.

Here is a summary of the awards and scholarships presented to graduating seniors at June 4 Senior Awards Ceremony:

The Washington State Honors Award is a state recognition program that honors the Top 10% of the current year's state high school graduating class. In order to qualify, students must have at least a 3.98 GPA and scored exceptionally well on the SBAC. Honorees: Ainsley Albertson; Alyssa Case; Malcolm Chapel; Camille Christensen; Jacob Dark; Darina Dorokhov; Ava Hall; Renner James; Dillyn Ledbetter; Anastacia Maitland; Brenton McNair; Olivia Muller; Amanda Pandina; Madelyn Peterson; Evelyn Sutter; Akaljot Thandi; Easton Weber; Aidan Willis; and Kendall Zabel.

National Merit Commended Students place in the top 50,000 of approximately 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT test. Congratulations to Avery Berg and Brenton McNair.

There are different levels of Advanced Placement (AP) recognition awarded by The College Board. The AP Scholar Award, which is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3 or higher on 3 or more AP exams, was given to Cadyn Lanier, Akaljot Thandi and Charlie Varney. The AP Scholar with Distinction, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5  on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on 5 or more of these exams, was presented to Ava Hall, Brenton McNair and Kendall Zabel. Finally, the AP Big Futures Awards is a recognition for students who score in the top 10% on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 - either among all the test takers at our school, first-generation test takers in Washington, or students from rural and small-town communities. Others earned it by scoring a 3 or higher on two or more AP exams in 8th, 9th, or 10th grades. Big Futures honorees included: Zachary Chung; Ava Hall; Ethan Hunt; Carter Hymas; Carson Jardine; Makoa Lewis; Robert Matheson; Brenton McNair; Olivia Muller; Evelyn Sutter; and Kendall Zabel.

Three graduating seniors were recognized by the US Marine Corps: Kendall Zabel - Scholastic Excellence, Madsen Richardson - Distinguished Athlete; and Makoa Lewis - Semper Fidelis for Musical Excellence.

The STEM Memorial Scholarship was created by the Hockinson Public Schools Foundation in honor of a local Hockinson resident who donated a large part of their estate to support Hockinson graduating seniors pursuing degrees or careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Scholarship recipients were: Brenton McNair; Dillyn Ledbetter; Olivia Muller; Evelyn Sutter and Kendall Zabel.

Hockinson Foundation Scholarships are awarded to deserving Seniors who have been selected by the Foundation Board based on their academics, school/community service, and potential for success. Recipients were: Evelyn Sutter; Dillyn Ledbetter; Brenton McNair; Easton Weber; Kendall Zabel; Sarah DeRoos; Olivia Muller; and Jasper Armstrong.

The John Lloyd Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jasper Armstrong; Olivia Muller; Amelia Stewart; Dillyn Ledbetter and Madsen Richardson for exemplifying the same values of kindness, respect and integrity that John Lloyd lived by. These recipients have been selected by the Foundation Board. Evan Heder and Anastacia Maitland also received a Lloyd Memorial Scholarship.

The Emma Koenig Scholarship is voted on by the graduating class and awarded by the Koenig family to a graduating senior who possesses many of the attributes of the late Emma Koening, a former HHS graduate. Congratulations to Abigail Troxel.

The recipients of the 2025 Perseverance Award, a scholarship which is awarded to a graduating senior who has shown tenacity and exceptional effort to overcoming obstacles on the way to graduating from HHS, was Delaney McBride and Isaac Maxson.

HHS Renaissance Awards were presented to the following students who have participated in at least one sport, one performing art, and one service-oriented club or organization: Jaden Archuleta - Cheer, Softball, Theatre, ASB; Paige Dangleis  - Swim, Band, National Honor Society, Key Club; Daniel Hall - Theatre, Knowledge Bowl, Math Olympiad, Cross Country, FBLA; Madison Hole - Softball, Theatre, Band, Volleyball; Olivia Muller - Volleyball, Tennis, Theatre, Band, FBLA; Gracie Newton - Cross Country, Swimming, Key Club, Theatre, FBLA; Madelyn Peterson - Soccer, Track, Theatre, Mock Trial, Math Olympiad; Ryan Stanley - Theatre, Football, Key Club; Evelyn Sutter - Golf, Band, National Honor Society, Key Club, FBLA; Ainsley Weed - Tennis, Cheer, Theatre, Band, Key Club; and Elle Young - Theatre, Track, Cheer, Yearbook.

The Washington State Seal of Biliteracy honors students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages. Congratulations to Emily Gomez - Spanish; Daniel Netesov - Russian; German Pykhodko - Russian; Amelia  Stewart - German; Evnika Tagintsev - Russian; Jemima Tarkovsky - Russian.

Recipients of Department Awards have demonstrated hard work, curiosity, creativity, and leadership in the classroom. Congratulations to Sarah Deroos - Art; Amanda Pandina and Elle Young - CTE; Avery Berg, Abigail Birkinbine, Malcolm Chapel, Ian Guasco, and Amanda Pandina - ELA; Malcolm Chapel and Ian Guasco - Health & PE; Ainsley Albertson, Dillynn Ledbetter, and Kaylin Truong - Math; Max Kilkenny and Kadyn Lanier - Performing Arts; Avery Berg - Science; Jayden Corey and Dillyn Ledbetter - Social Studies; and Malcolm Chapel and Jayden Corey - World Language.

For their compassion, patience, and leadership, the following students received Peer Tutor Awards:

Special Education: Cannon Major, Trinity Maldonado, Izak  Nairis, Gracie Newton, Liam  O'Dell, Kiera Poulsen, Colton Rodrigue, Madison Stoker, Adam Wallace, Kathryn  White, and Elle Young.

Preschool: Abigail Birkinbine, Amelia Dansie, Lilah Morguess, Caileigh Murdoch, Amanda Pandina, Akaljot Thandi, and Ethan Wall.

Math: Malcolm Chapel, Ava Hall, Daniel Hall, Cadyn Lanier, and John Stone.

Ian Guasco received one of four GSHL 2A League Scholarships that are awarded to area senior scholar-athletes who demonstrate citizenship, academic excellence, and school involvement. 

In addition to honoring its ASB student leaders, HHS also recognized ten graduating seniors who have committed to college music and athletic programs:

Jasper Armstrong will be attending Minot State University on a wrestling scholarship. Jasper was a three-sport athlete this year at Hockinson participating in Football, Wrestling and Soccer. 

Ian Guasco will be attending St. Olaf’s University in Northfield, Minnesota to run in Cross Country and Track and Field. Ian has been a member of HHS Cross Country and track teams for four years.

Graham Learing will be attending Lower Columbia Community College in Longview WA and playing on the baseball team. He has been on the baseball team at Hockinson for three years. 

Madsen Richardson will be attending Southern Virginia University in the fall and joining the Track and Field team there. Madsen has been a three-sport athlete during his time at Hockinson participating in Football, Basketball and Track and Field. 

Alonzo Flores will be attending the University of Puget Sound in the fall to play on the soccer team there. He has played Varsity Soccer at Hockinson for four years. 

Paige Dangleis will be attending Whitworth University in Spokane Washington and joining the Swim Team there. She has been on the Hockinson Swim Team for all four years in high school. 

Allyson Railsback will be attending Grand Canyon University in the fall and joining the Gymnastics Team there. During her time at high school, she has been involved in cheerleading, and gymnastics in addition to dance. 

Makoa Lewis will be attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in the fall to play percussion in the school’s band program.

Cadyn Lanier will be attending Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio to participate in the band there. She has played in our HHS Band for four years. 

Zieynita Stidum will be attending the University of Portland in the fall and joining the Track team here. While at Hockinson, she has participated in Basketball and Track for all four years.

By paving the way for students to enroll in post-secondary education, enlist in the military, or enter the workforce, the HSD continues to fulfill its mission to prepare all students for lifelong success. We are excited to profile where the Class of 2025 is going next!
