Meet Renner, a senior at Hockinson High School, and Lars, a sophomore! Both students are excelling in the school’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program. They are gaining hands-on experience, honing in-demand trade skills, and exploring potential career paths — all before graduating high school! Here's more from these future-ready Hawks:
What is your favorite subject in school right now?
Renner: My favorite subject in school right now is CTE, where I get to unwind and express the creative part of myself after a day of focusing on my core classes.
Lars: My favorite subject in school right now is Woodshop. I have always loved woodworking, because it is fun, interesting, and you can create cool projects.
What do you look forward to most at school?
Renner: When I come to school every day, I’ve found that I not only love being around my friends, I also really look forward to what my teachers have to offer me, both in the subjects they teach and general life advice.
Lars: I like my classes and look forward most to hanging out with my friends.
Are you involved in any sports or activities outside of class?
Renner: I’m the President of our SkillsUSA program, and a member of our school's track team, National Honors Society, and Key Club.
Lars: I am involved in SkillsUSA outside of school.
Do you have a favorite memory from school this year?
Renner: This year has honestly been an effort focused around making memories. With it being my last year, I’ve really bonded a lot more closely to my teachers and classmates. I will look back on this entire year and have fond memories.
Lars: My favorite memory from school this year was getting first place at the plumbing competition for the Washington State SkillsUSA conference.
Have you thought about any plans for after graduation?
Renner: I plan on serving a two year mission for my church, and then attending college to earn my Masters in Architecture.
Lars: I am thinking of getting a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at WSU Vancouver after graduation.
Thank you for sharing your school experiences and CTE journeys with us, Renner and Lars. We are proud to have you at HHS and can’t wait to see where your interests and skills take you next!
