The varsity athletic teams at Hockinson High School are not only excelling on the field of play, but in the classroom as well. Seven different teams have qualified for academic awards this semester.
The teams are being recognized by the Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires Scholastic Award program, which rewards athletic groups that maintain a high collective academic standard.
Teams that qualified for the program this fall are as follows:
- Football
- Volleyball
- Boys Golf
- Girls Swim
- Girls Soccer
- Boys Cross Country
- Girls Cross Country
“Every single one of our fall varsity sports qualified for an academic award this year,” said Joshua Johnson, Associate Principal and Athletic Director at HHS. “This shows the dedication to excellence that our students strive for every day. Not only are they recognized for their accomplishments on the field and court, but in the classroom as well.”
In addition to qualifying for an academic award, the HHS Girls Cross Country team has been named 2A Academic State Champions for earning the highest collective grade point average in the state for their sport (3.938 average GPA).
The teams were recognized during a high school pep assembly on Friday, November 1.
"Our student athletes embody the ideals that our community holds dear: good character, leadership and togetherness, to name a few," said HSD Superintendent Steve Marshall. "This is a truly amazing accomplishment!"
