Congratulations to our Hockinson High School musicians, who recently had some inspired performances at the University of Portland and Columbia Basin College jazz festivals!
The HHS Jazz Band won first place overall and first place for sightreading at the University of Portland Jazz Festival on April 13. Karl Drendel was named an outstanding division soloist on guitar, and Jesse Smith, Jack Broer and Alexander Lee also received recognition for their solo work.
The next day, they took their show on the road with the HHS Wind Ensemble to the Columbia Basin College Jazz Unlimited festival, where the Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble took second place among the AA division bands. Shannon Dally received an outstanding musicianship award on the oboe, and Karl Drendel was named an outstanding soloist on guitar.
