Welcome back, Grades 4 & 5
HHES students in fourth and fifth grades joined their K-3 peers on campus on Monday, February 1. Our district’s youngest learners have been safely learning in class––with masks on, excellent hand hygiene, and proper social distancing––since November (kindergarten) and January (grades 1-3). Plans for adding more grades to hybrid learning are underway and will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Financial support for school activity funds
Due to the shortened playing season and to encourage participation, the HSD will join the rest of the GSHL 2A schools in not charging fees for the upcoming Season 1 sports (this fee waiver will not apply to Season 2 sports or next year). HHS Season 1 Sports practices kicked off last week. These sports include: Football; Cross Country; Girls Soccer; Volleyball; Boys Golf; and Girls Swim (TBD). Please be aware that participation in these sports requires compliance with COVID-19 health precautions, such as spectator limits, mask wearing, and daily health screenings.

Reykdal Announces Educator Vaccination Plan
On Friday, Jan. 28, OSPI Superintendent Chris Reykdal revealed the details of the state’s "Get Ready" Plan to vaccinate teachers and school workers by the end of the spring. By partnering with Kaiser Permanente and other agencies, he hopes to open a number of vaccination locations across the state in the coming months with the goal of vaccinating at least 80% of school employees. We are pleased that the state and Kaiser have chosen to prioritize vaccinations for educators and we will share more information about this plan as it becomes available.
Visiting a school building?
Consistent with the 1/26 update to DOH Guidance for Daily COVID-19 Symptom Screening of Staff and Guests, please note that we have added a sixth question to our daily attestation form:
Within the past 14 days, has a public health or medical professional told you to self-monitor, self-isolate, or self-quarantine because of concerns about COVID19 infection?
Just as with the other questions on the daily symptom screening, a “Yes” will require that you not enter the building and instead return home.
Transportation Information
We apologize if you experienced any issues with bus pickups this week. When fourth and fifth-grade students were added back to bus routes, some changes in pickup/dropoff schedules were necessary. If you are still unclear about your student’s school bus schedule, please call Cascade Student Transportation (360) 687-7137 and choose Option 1 for help with bus route information.

Community reminder: choosing the right mask
As more staff and students return to our campuses, HSD is reminding the community that all staff and students are expected to wear masks/face coverings at all times while outside their homes. There are many different types of masks that are widely available, some of which are more effective than others. Please review the CDC's recommendations for choosing the right mask.
