HHS Coaches Students in Cyber Safety

Hockinson School District cares about its students—both in the real world and in cyberspace.

That’s why school resource officer Jason Granneman hosted an all-school assembly focused on internet safety Friday at Hockinson High School.

Using a curriculum from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, he discussed the dangers of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and sexting—and how to avoid them.

“These are life tools,” said Granneman, who is a deputy with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. “They’ll use them the rest of their lives.”

The presentation provided students with information on how to avoid trouble online, how to report it and how to deal with it.

“With smartphones and social media, it’s 24/7 now,” Granneman said. “What’s happening outside school comes to school. We want to educate students to make better decisions and keep them out of harm’s way.”
