Davis Resigns School Board Post

Hockinson School District Board member Katherine Davis announced her resignation at Monday’s Board meeting. It is effective Jan. 31.

Davis began serving on the board of directors in July 2011 and also has served as the board’s legislative representative, keeping the district informed of developments at the state and federal level, and contacting legislators to provide the Hockinson board’s perspective.

“Katherine has contributed so much to Hockinson School District,” said Superintendent Sandra Yager. “She has been a resourceful representative both of her district—District 5—and of the entire school district at the state level, sharing how state policies impact smaller districts.”

Before Davis became a board director for District 5, she served as a substitute teacher in Hockinson and on committees at all three schools as her sons grew up in the district.

“It was such a great way to get involved in Hockinson and learn the heart of Hockinson,” she said, reflecting on why she ran for a board position. “When I learned the heart of Hockinson, that’s all it took.”

Davis said she submitted her letter of resignation with a heavy heart. Her family sold its home in Hockinson and was unable to find another place within the district. She had hoped to complete her term, but state law requires board members to live in the district they represent.

As she departs, Davis said she is confident the Board’s good work will continue.

“We have such a cohesive working board with five very individualistic viewpoints,” she said. “Everybody on that board is so heart-invested in the well-being of the district and these kids. It shines through.”
