Letters About Literature Contest
This is the image for the news article titled Letters About Literature Contest Letters About Literature is a national writing contest that begins at the state level. Students write a letter to an author, explaining how his or her work shaped their perspective on the world or themselves. Students write about works of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. This is the fifth year students in my English classes have participated in the contest with winning letters each year -- 17 total Hockinson High School students have been honored over the years, including a Washington state winner (Jordyn Tonkinson 2013). I'm so proud of my students!

This year, three students are in the running for the championship letter, but even being a semifinalist is a great achievement! Students: Riley Lyons, Nathan Niemela, Sequoya Bannister. The final winners will be announced on or around April 15th.
